ICALT2020 starts on July 6, co-hosted by University of Tartu
20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies and Technology-Enhanced Learning (ICALT 2020) takes place on July 6-9, fully online, organized by IEEE and Institute of Education of the University of Tartu. The conference was originally scheduled to take place on the premises of the University of Tartu, but due to the threat of the coronavirus it was decided to hold the conference online.
The four conference days will be filled by a voluminous program with more than 120 presentations and discussions. Topics range from educational big data, artificial intelligence and learning analytics to augmented reality and digital games. The social and psychological aspects of technology-based learning are also addressed. The keynote speakers will talk about supporting students' research and reasoning skills, state of adoption of learning analytics and empowering communities in digital learning. The guests will have an acess to an online entertainment program introducing Estonia and Tartu and the opportunity to communicate with each other in a virtual conference lobby
The Estonian Chair of the organizing committee of the conference is Margus Pedaste, Professor of Educational Technology at the Institute of Education. According to him, having the conference in Tartu is a recognition for the achievements of Estonia in the field of education and technology as well as the high-level research done by the educational technology working group at the University of Tartu. "Organizing a web conference is a good exercise in logistics, as our listeners and presenters are from so many different time zones, but I believe that we have done a good job, "said Pedaste.
Supporting and enhancing learning with innovative technological solutions and related research are of growing interest worldwide. Challenges of distance learning during COVID-19 lockdowns have made it even more important topic to address. ICALT is an annual conference organized by IEEE computer science and learning technology sub-organizations since 2000. The conference program is available on the website http://icalt2020.ut.ee.
